On 24th February 2021, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan became the 108th member of the Madrid Protocol.
The Madrid Protocol will come into effect for Pakistan on May 24, 2021, giving the Pakistan Government three months to issue an implementing regulation and prepare for the acceptance of international trademark applications under the protocol.
From May 24, 2021, brand owners based in Pakistan can file a single international application under the Madrid System to protect their trademarks in 123 territories of all other member nations of the Madrid System. Likewise, brand owners in all other member nations of the Madrid System shall be able to designate Pakistan in their international applications.
